Community Based Disaster Risk Reduction Programme (CBDRM)

Disaster is defined as a serious disruption of the functioning of a community or a society causing widespread human, material, economic, or environmental losses that exceed the ability of the affected community or society to cope. Communities are the first to experience the effects of any disaster and the first to respond to disasters. A key aspect of a successful community based initiative is partnership with, empowerment of, and ownership by the local communities and these factors underpin sustainable approach to community based disaster risk management programme.
